Well we are now 32 weeks pregnant and busy getting things ready for baby Marcus who will be popping out soon.

We are based in Taichung and our experiences so far have been pretty good with the local medical care and hospital. We are lucky because we live reasonably close to the Veterans Hospital which is on Taichung Harbor Road and they are great!

At first we went to one of the small local clinics, but found that the doctors were cold as ice and the facilities were pretty poor as well. However the Veterans Hospital has a fairly new building for pediatric and maternity care which is really clean and spacious as well as having all of the latest equipment, so we have been going there ever since.

The doctor is great, he is called Ke yi Min in room 607 and he has been in the department for more than 10 years so he knows what he is doing. He and his nurses have been really good, he is friendly and likes to talk with the patients which is a pleasant change from some of the others.

We had a 4D scan and an amniosentisis there which both went very well and we are planning to have the birth there as well shortly.

My good wife is HUGE now even though she is 32 weeks. We are not sure why as baby Marcus seems to be about normal size for a western baby +/- 1800g although the doctor did say that the weight measurement is not that accurate. My wife's friends who are having their babys now are nothing like as big as she is, so we shall see...

We will probably go for a natural birth with an epidural if we can as this is our first baby and Thalia (my wife) is already 35. But if little Marcus is close to 4 Kg, then we will probably have the C-section.

I did read about people having something called a spinal block, instead of an epidural, but I don't know what this is. They mentioned that this was very pleasant, so we shall have to ask about this as well.

Anyway, that is the medical story so far.... I'll put some pictures of Thalia and Marcus on here as well if I can work out how.
